Cheltenham Town FC

Following the sad news of the passing of long term Cheltenham Town director Rod Burge, the Robins Trust board would like to offer thoughts and condolences to Rod’s family and friends at this difficult time.

"I have known Rod since I started supporting the Robins in the mid 1990s," said Clive.

"Rod was a true gentleman and would take an interest in everything you did. 

"He would always ask about how my daughter was and how the family were doing and took an interest in the Robins Trust and all the work we did.

"We will all have our own memories of Rod but the two that stick out for me were the way he always showed his appreciation to anyone who helped his club. On one occasion I recall Rod going into the kitchen and making everyone breakfast who were volunteering to help sell tickets for our play-off final game in 2007. I remember another supporter saying to me you would be hard pushed to find any other director in the Football League who would be prepared to cook supporters breakfast to show his appreciation.

"It showed that Rod was a true gentleman.

"The second, was at a time when there were some supporters helping to tidy up the ground during one summer. Rod noticed these supporters helping out call them all over and bought everyone a drink to show his thanks.

Rod was a true gentleman and even during his illness in later life he would always take time to ask how you were and how everything was. Not only are the club mourning the loss of a director, we are also mourning the loss of a great friend.

"The 2013/14 has been a difficult season for the club on the pitch but more difficult off it - with the death of regular supporters Roy Scott, Bryan Jacob and now the sad news about Rod. The Robins Trust will be happy to support the football club in finding a fitting tribute for Rod ahead our last game of the season on May 3."
