Cheltenham Town aiming for sweet success thanks to National Star

27 November 2014

Cheltenham Town are hoping for a sweet success of a different kind when they take on Oxford United on Saturday.

Volunteers from National Star will sell biscuits at the Whaddon Road ground to raise money for young people with disabilities.

Cheltenham Town captain Matt Taylor and team mate Raffa De Vita donned their pinnies to help the cause.

They admitted their baking skills aren’t up to scratch and joined a lifeskills class with National Star students to gain a few baking tips.

“Raffa and I share a place but we never bake. Rafa cooks almost every night - but it’s always pasta,” said Matt as he helped mix up a batch of cupcakes.

“We brought Whaddney along to help because we heard he has experience in the kitchen but he kept well-clear of the mixing bowls and oven mitts.”

The pair then answered questions from sports students in a special session at the college’s Ullenwood campus.

National Star is running its Star Bake campaign to encourage people to bake cakes to raise money to help transform the lives of young people with disability.

“We really enjoyed meeting and chatting with the students at National Star and must admit their baking skills are better than ours,” said Matt. “We hope all our supporters and the visiting Oxford fans will support this good cause on Saturday.”
