Welcome to Cheltenham Andy Smith

24 January 2024

We are delighted to confirm that defender Andy Smith has joined the club on loan from Championship outfit Hull City until the end of the season.

The young centre back is our third addition of the January window and joins the club having signed a new long-tem deal with his parent club back in October.

Born in Banbury, Smith grew up in Yorkshire and joined the Tigers as a young 10-year-old, playing his way through the academy.

He would go on to captain the Under 18s during his two years as a scholar before gaining his first senior experience with League Two Salford City, where he made four cup appearances.

Two seperate loan spells with Grimsby Town followed where Smith played 67 times, helping the Mariners back to the Football League before consolidating their fourth tier status last term.

Andy now puts pen-to-paper in Gloucestershire for the rest of this season, providing further depth at the back for the Robins.

Speaking to the media team after signing, Smith said:

"Ever since I knew there was interest from the club I was really excited by it and I wanted to come here straight away.

"I was at the game last night and I thought we played really well. I was really impressed with what I saw and I think everyone felt we should have at least got a point.

"I've come here to hopefully get some more minutes under my belt and I'm looking forward to getting started."

Andy's arrival is in association with club partners Little Jet Company and his player sponsorship is available now for half price.

Welcome to the Club, Andy!
