Look Back: Burton Albion 5-6 Cheltenham Town

6 February 2024

Ahead of our Sky Bet League One away trip to Burton Albion, we take a look back at one the best games in modern club and EFL history.

An 11-goal thriller back in March 2010 saw an unforgettable comeback, as Town incredibly ran out 6-5 winners at the Pirelli Stadium.

With Mark Yates' Robins 5-3 down on 87 minutes, late goals from Michael Pook and Justin Richards secured a dramatic late turnaround.

After going in at the break 2-0 down, quickfire goals from Richards and Medy Elito levelled the scores before the Brewers would restore their two goal advantage.

Pook netted his first of the game on 84 minutes but when Steve Kabba made it 5-3 with five minutes to play, the game looked out of sight.

But that wasn't the case. Pook's looping deflected effort halved the defecit before Richards rolled home an equaliser at the end of normal time.

And in the 94th minute a corner was cleared to the edge of the area where Pook took aim, firing past Burton keeper Artur Krysiak to send the Robins supporters behind the goal into raptures and back to Gloucestershire with the three points.
