Paul Warne's Rams arrive in Gloucestershire off the back of a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Town meanwhile will be hoping to earn their first goals and three points of the league campaign in new manager Darrell Clarke's second game in charge.
Ahead of the clash, Long said:
"Since the manager has come in he has brought a real energy to the group.
"This weekend, there's no getting away from the fact that Derby are a massive club and we know how much of a test it's going to be.
"But it's up to us to start implementing what the gaffer is asking of us moving forward, starting with that next game against Derby."
