Report: Robins 3-0 Bristol Rovers Development

13 March 2023

Cheltenham Town cruised to the final of the Gloucestershire Senior County Cup after a 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers Development.

Goals from Elkan Baggott, Charlie Brown and Christian Norton sealed the evening victory at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium.

The Indonesian opened the scoring after Brown linked up well with full-back Adulai Sambu down the right wing. Sambu whipped the ball into the penalty area, where a diving Baggott met it with full force inside the six-yard box.

The Robins were in cruise control for the opening half, with several chances peppering the goal of young Gas keeper Ross Mason.

Eventually, Cheltenham doubled their advantage through forward Brown. He linked up well with strike partner Norton, who's skill allowed him to dart in the Rovers box. With his back to goal, he laid off Brown who smashed the ball into the under side of the bar and back in the net.

The only notable chance the visitors had came through Charlie White. The Rovers full back recieved the ball down their left wing, and smacked it just wide of the target.

At the break, both sides made two changes each, however it made little impact to the second half with the home side dominating again.

On the 53rd minute, Wales U21 international Norton scored a powerful goal with his left boot, all but sealing the victory.

Captain Shaun MacDonald was called into action for the first time in the tie, after keeping out a chance from Harvey Greenslade.

Midway into the second half, Mason made a good save to his left to prevent James Olayinka scoring from distance.

A tired, young Bristol side struggled to create many chances in the final half, and the Robins comfortably saw out the match to send them into a final against either Cirencester Town, Bristol City or Bristol Manor Farm.
