Report: Evesham United 2-4 Robins

8 July 2023

The Robins kicked off their 2023/24 pre-season preperations with a 4-2 victory against Evesham United.

A goal from Cameron Walters and a Liam Sercombe brace in the first-half set Wade Elliott's side on their way before Lewis Freestone added a fourth after the break.

The Robins' first chance came on 12 minutes when Sercombe went close, as his volley from the edge of the box drifted just wide of the far post.

The hosts nearly took the lead themselves moments later when a cross from the right Levi Steele, but the forward spurned a chance of a debut goal heading wide.

But he was handed a gift to open the scoring just moments later when a mix-up at the back from Robins goalkeeper Jamie Pardington saw Steele walk in the opening goal.

However it wasn't long before the Robins were level. Sercombe's inswinging corner was met by the youngster Walters to bundle home the eqauliser

Not long after the Robins foraged ahead, Sercombe this time getting a goal of his own, firing a smart finish into the bottom right hand corner, leaving Lewis Admas helpless in the Evesham goal.

Sercombe netted his second of the game to make it 3-1 just beyond the half hour mark.

Young Tom King did very well down the right hand side before laying it to Sercombe to blast home a third into the top right corner.

But that lead was cut in half just before the break when a ball into the box hit the helpless Walters before rolling into the back of the net.

After the break and a slow start saw the Robins best chance come through King, who could only find the side netting with his shot after closing in on goal.

Manager Elliott then made a full outfield switch on the 60 minute mark that saw both Rob Street and Curtis Davies take to the field for their first appearances since signing for the club.

And the Robins had their fourth just five minutes later when Dan Adshead picked out Lewis Freestone at the back post with a floated cross, which the defender headed home.

It was a quiet rest of the half that saw little action as the Robins began their 2023/24 pre-season campiagn with a win.

The Robins now look ahead to two more pre-season friendlies next week, a trip to Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday before taking on Weston Super Mare next Saturday.
