Report: Robins 3-1 Forest Green Rovers

22 April 2023

The Robins celebrated a memorable 3-1 victory over local rivals Forest Green Rovers in the Sky Bet League One.

All three goals came in the first half for the Robins with Alfie May opening the scoring.

Aidan Keena added a second for Cheltenham before May added his second and the side's last goal of the game, ensuring the game was done before half-time.

The game started brightly for Cheltenham, Keena found himself with the ball outside the box before finding May whose shot was saved by Doohan.

It was May who found the breakthrough for the Robins, smashing the ball into the bottom corner of Ross Doohan's goal to give the Robins the lead.

Keena doubled the lead for Cheltenham, getting the ball from May before driving into the Forest Green area and smashing the ball into the bottom corner.

May added another for the home side, latching on to a brilliant cross from Will Ferry from the left-hand side, doubling the striker's haul in the game.

Cheltenham kept the pressure up, this time Elliott Bonds found Keena in the area who spun two defenders and saw his left-footed shot saved by Doohan.

Liam Sercombe played a free-kick to May on the edge whose low-driven effort went wide of the post.

The visitors did pull one back just after half-time, with Jordan Garrick poking home from close range.

Ryan Broom took aim, whipping an effort towards the top corner which required a good clearance from the Rovers' defence.
