Murry Toms joins board of directors

12 April 2023

Cheltenham Town are delighted to announce that Murry Toms has joined the board of directors.

Murry has 25 years of television, digital media, and press operations experience. He began life working on a number of early web, mobile and interactive TV projects such as Big Brother, then a ground-breaking social experiment for Channel 4.

He later joined River Cottage, producing the digital elements for 10 TV series and award-winning sustainability campaigns with broadcaster Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

The work recruited millions of supporters, leading to meaningful changes in the way people think about some of society's biggest issues. He was named a BAFTA finalist for 'digital creativity' on Hugh's Fish Fight, highlighting the world's diminishing fish stocks which led to law changes at the European Parliament.

Most recently he is a founding member of Crowdfunder, the UK's leading fundraising platform. There he leads the sports team, working with partners such as Sport England, Sport Wales, and the ECB to invest millions into grassroots clubs and organisations.

Away from the 'day job' he has been part of the press operations teams at major events such as the Olympics, Rugby World Cup and Commonwealth Games, where he was part of the Wales team. He began helping the club with its media output in 2003, becoming Fan Elected Director in 2017.

"It's a humbling moment for me and I hope my experience can make a difference.

"We're a proud hard-working club, rooted in its community. We have a rich history precisely because of those qualities and we need to continue to use them to establish ourselves at this level, away from the pitch.

"We want to develop new and innovative ways to talk to supporters, tell our story and excite the town about the club. It's a big challenge but it's one I'm really looking forward to, alongside the staff and supporters."

Club Chairman David Bloxham was pleased with the appointment, saying: "I am delighted to welcome Murry back onto the board at Cheltenham Town.

"Murry is a long-standing supporter of the club who is already known to many of our fans. He has a unique skill set which I believe will greatly improve and enhance the club’s media and marketing output.

"All the board welcome Murry’s appointment, recognising his skills and enthusiasm to continue our club’s growth and future development."
