Report: Robins 1 - 1 Ipswich Town

10 April 2023

The Robins played out a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town to gain a big point in the Sky Bet League One.

Ipswich took the lead in the game with Conor Chaplin poking the ball home from close range after a Blues long throw into the Cheltenham penalty area.

A late goal from Alfie May sealed a point for the Robins, with Aidan Keena doing brilliantly in the air to win the ball.

It was a good start for the Robins with Lewis Freestone getting an effort on target after latching onto a corner before seeing his header saved by Christian Walton.

Ipswich had a good chance in the box through Marcus Harness who found himself in space, however, the number 11 dragged his shot wide of the post.

James Olayinka made a marauding run into the Ipswich box before playing it off to May, the striker let off an effort that hit the right post.

A scramble in the Ipswich box saw the Robins come close to opening the scoring but May just couldn't get the final touch on it.

Luke Southwood hit a superb long kick from his own box which landed on the boot of May who volleyed the ball goalwards only for his effort to be saved by Walton.

Southwood was called into action again very soon after with a great stop to deny former Cheltenham man Wes Burns from point-blank range.

The Robins started the second half well as Sean Long threw himself at an Olayinka cross, with his effort going out got a corner.

Ipswich came forward with purpose with Kyle Edwards playing in George Hirst who smashed the ball against the bar to keep the game level.

The Blues would take the lead as well, Chaplin turned the ball into the net after a long throw into the Cheltenham penalty area.

Cheltenham did fight back though, May scored into an open net after Keena did brilliantly in the air to beat Walton to the ball, bringing the Robins level.
