Before the 2021/22 League One season came to an end, Will Boyle headed to the training ground to join the club's academy to watch some of the age groups in training.
The academy age groups train several times throughout the week alongside their playing schedule.
Boyle made a visit to watch some of the age groups being put through their paces by academy staff at the training ground.
It was a reminder to the central defender of how important a time academy football was in his football development, not just in terms of progressing into becoming a professional, but the overall benefits he gained from being involved in that environment.
"Kids this age just love playing football and having the opportunity to do this in this organised fashion with a good standard of coaching is a win-win for everyone," he said.
"The statistics of people progressing through academies and to play first team football and professional football is quite low, but even the social skills and everything that you learn from that side of things is massive.
"You learn to be a part of a team and compete with other people at the same time. I think it's invaluable really."
