Carabao Cup and Papa John's Trophy information revealed

20 June 2022

Cheltenham Town will join MK Dons and Walsall in Southern Group C for next season's Papa John's Trophy.

We will be joined by one of eight invited clubs from the Premier League with the first match scheduled for the week commencing August 29, although all dates are subject to change.

Meanwhile the Carabao Cup first round draw will take place this Thursday (June 23) and we have been allocated ball number eight in the South Section.

The Robins achieved their best performance in the competition last season, bowing out at Preston North End at the third round stage.

They had defeated Gillingham on penalties to set up the tie at Deepdale after seeing off Bristol Rovers in round one, thanks to goals by Alfie May and Kyle Vassell.

There was less success in the Papa John's Trophy, failing to progress from Group E after a 2-0 loss to Rovers and Exeter City on penalties.

However Owen Evans was the shootout hero in their final match, saving Lewis Baker's penalty to beat Chelsea Under-21s in front of a remarkable crowd of almost 3,000.

This Thursday is also the League One fixture release day. We'll bring you all the key dates as they are revealed at 9am.
