Preview: Williams on Charlton Athletic

14 January 2022

Ben Williams could make his Cheltenham Town debut on Saturday against Charlton Athletic.

The 22-year-old was the club's first January signing, penning a two-and-a-half year contract having joined from Championship side Barnsley.

Having been an unused substitute in last Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Burton Albion, he is looking forward to the possibility of being involved in this weekend's encounter against Charlton having had the opportunity to settle into the club.

"It has been brilliant," he said. "It's been a breath of fresh air coming to a new club with the opportunity of playing. The lads have been brilliant, the gaffer has been really good with me, and it feels like a club I can really fit in at.

"With Chris (Hussey) going I know he's been a brilliant servant to the club but I'm just looking to nail that place in the team now and hopefully push on individually and as a team."

Following two recent good performances against Burton and Oxford United he's also hoping a good result against the Addicks this weekend can help kick-start a positive run of results.

"We know Charlton are a decent team, a big club, but we've been working on our stuff in training. All the lads are confident going into the game. We don't see why we can't get the three points and look to get a run of games and a run of wins going."
