Preview: Duff on Charlton Athletic

13 January 2022

Michael Duff has been keen to point out the quality of player that Saturday's visitors Charlton Athletic will bring with them to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

It's the first ever League meeting between the clubs at Cheltenham on Saturday when the Addicks visit for a 3pm kick-off.

Duff, who went to watch their midweek loss at Crewe, knows the level of test that they'll provide given the experience and standard of players in their squad.

The Robins boss has also been reflecting on the latest transfer activity involving his side in the January transfer window when he spoke to the media on Thursday morning.

"I went to watch them against Crewe. They were excellent for 20 or 25 minutes and then conceded from two set plays. They came away from what they do and then had a go again in the last 15 minutes and were probably unluckly not to get a result really because the disallowed goal was a bit of an odd decision," he said.

"Since Johnnie (Jackson) has gone in they've gone on an unbelievable run. They've got some good players. I expect them to be better than what they were last night against Crewe. I expect them to be better because we played well at their place so I don't think they'll take us lightly.

"Charlton against Cheltenham it's a big team against a little team so we'll have to be at it.

"They are a good team. They've got international footballers, people like Ben Watson on the bench who has won an FA Cup and the career that he's had. They've got quality throughout the squad."
