Cheltenham Town have signed left-sided defender Ben Williams from Championship side Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

The Wales under-21 international joins the Robins on a two-and-a-half year contract lasting until the summer of 2024.

A product of the Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley academies, he has both League One and Championship experience and was a part of the Barnsley team that finished as runners up in League One in the 2018/19 season to gain automatic promotion to the Championship.

A knee injury kept him out last season, but he has returned to full fitness for the current campaign where he's made five appearances at Oakwell in the second tier.

Commenting on his transfer to Cheltenham Williams said: "Coming from Barnsley I've already experienced League One already. I'm looking forward to cracking on with the lads.

"I'm feeling good and I'm ready to hit the ground running."

His player sponsorship is now available for the remainder of the season at a discount price.

The defender could make his Cheltenham debut on Saturday when Burton Albion are the visitors to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Tickets for the match are available to buy online and if you buy before midnight on Friday you can save £2 on the cost of your ticket.
