Reaction: May on Oxford United

19 September 2021

Alfie May was due to start Saturday's win over Oxford United on the bench, but injuries in the squad saw the forward handed a starting berth in front of over 5,000 supporters at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

And the lively attacker made it count as he netted the only goal of the game to earn the Robins back-to-back victories in League One for the first time since 2009.

He was pleased that an improved second half showing proved effective against a good Oxford side who threatened throughout the first half.

"They had a very good spell in the first half where we felt it was constant pressure," he said.

"They are a very good team. They pass it well and you see their movement and how they get around the pitch and they're a fit team.

"It was good to get to half time 0-0 and then to recharge our batteries and go again.

"Second half I thought we dominated. We found a way to play and it worked and we won the game."

Attentions now turn to Tuesday's Carabao Cup round three tie at Preston North End.
