Preview: Duff on Wigan Athletic

24 September 2021

Playing the teams positioned first and second in the League One table in the space of four days have been described as Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff as the "ultimate free hits".

On Saturday the Robins are in action at the DW Stadium as they visit top of the table Wigan Athletic.

Then on Tuesday evening it's another long trip north to visit the Stadium of Light to face up to Sunderland.

They are both two long distance away games, to follow up Tuesday's Carabao Cup third round exit away at Championship side Preston North End, and Duff is well aware of the size of the challenge that awaits his side on the weekend.

"They lost their first game to Sunderland and are unbeaten since then," Duff said.

"It's our job to try and find a weakness and the first thing we need to do is make sure we deliver a performance.

"It's all good having ideas and plans, but if the players don't stand up and be counted first and foremost, we won't be in the game.

"We'll go up, prepare properly, go up and train tomorrow and try our best - that's all we can do. The next two games are the ultimate free hits."
