Reaction: Duff on Rotherham United

2 October 2021

Boss Michael Duff was pleased to see a reaction from his side to their midweek loss at Sunderland in their latest outing against Rotherham United.

Duff thought his team showed fight after the midweek loss at the Stadium of Light, but still couldn't deny one of Sunderland's promotion rivals, Rotherham United, from taking all three points back to south Yorkshire with them courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Will Grigg and Rarmani Edmonds-Green scored the decisive goals in a match that Duff felt his team competed well in up until when they fell behind.

"I was looking for a reaction from Sunderland and there was definitely that," he said.

"They weren't getting in with one ball, we were scrapping and fighting, playing against a good team so you are not going to get it your own way all the time.

"The last three games that we've lost, they are not in our league really. That doesn't mean you can't take points off them, but I'd be very surprised if there is one game this season we start as favourites with the bookies.

"Up until the first goal, Scott (Flinders) has made a few saves, but we've had three or four good chances as well, on the counter attack. Once the goal went in, I thought we were good for five or 10 minutes after that, then the subs they made, the last 20 minutes, we never looked like getting back in the game. I was happy with the first hour of it."
