Reaction: Duff on Accrington Stanley

16 October 2021

A good performance and three points left Cheltenham Town boss Michael Duff a happy man after he saw his team see off Accrington Stanley.

Kyle Vassell's finish towards the end of the second half proved to be enough to clinch all three points in a fairly level affair.

Duff was happy to see his side get back to winning ways in League One and also with the quality of performance his side delivered.

"I thought it was a good performance and it’s hard to win a game, we’ve seen that, particularly in this league, but even the league below it was difficult," he said.

"We’ve done a lot of talking in the last two weeks, but the last thing I said to them today was ‘talk is cheap’ and actions speak louder than words. I thought, even if we had drawn 0-0, which it could have been, I was pleased with the competitiveness, some of the football was quite good too.

"We were definitely the better team in the first half, without creating loads, but there were a few chances. First 20 minutes of the second half I thought they were better than us, not miles better, but edging it.

"Scott (Flinders) has made one excellent save and then we grew into it. That’s what I am talking about in terms of staying together, sticking with it and you have to ride momentum in a game.

"You won’t get it your own way either way, for 90 minutes. We managed to ride that tough period out and then finished really strong."
