Preview: Flinders on Sheffield Wednesday

28 October 2021

Scott Flinders is relishing the opportunity to face off against the club he grew up watching as a young boy when Sheffield Wednesday come to town on Saturday.

The experienced goalkeeper grew up a short distance from Sheffield where he still lives just outside Rotherham, so he has fond memories of going to Hillsborough as a child to see Saturday's opponents when they were riding high in the top flight.

They are determined to move back in that direction and will view their trip to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Saturday as another must win encounter, but Flinders and his teammates are prepared for what they're set to face.

"We knew going into this season we were going to be playing against big clubs, and in my eyes probably the biggest of them all as back in the day I was a Sheffield Wednesday fan," he said.

"I'm looking forward to the game. We know it's going to be a tough game. We've done our homework this morning.

"I was a massive fan back at school. I had the usual Wednesday kitted out bedroom and everything, so I've got really fond memories of going to Hillsborough as a kid watching Premiership football. They were really good days.

"I'm a massive Kevin Pressman fan. He used to run out with his glove bag and I used to try and copy that in Sunday League football."
