Storm Arwen may have been making its mark across the UK, but at the University of Bolton Stadium it was a whirlwind of an afternoon as Bolton Wanderers and Cheltenham Town played out an entertaining draw.

Alfie May struck a first half double for a Robins side who were excellent in the first 45 minutes and who twice led, but Xavier Amaechi and Elias Kachunga levelled on two occasions for the hosts to.

Both sides had chances to find a winning goal but were forced to share the points in their first meeting since both team's gained promotion from League Two last term.

May had his eye in from as early as the second minute as a bright start saw the forward force Joel Dixon into a save.

Dixon stopped Dan Crowley's effort on ten minutes and was then at his best to keep out Liam Sercombe's strike after the midfielder had broken through.

The Bolton 'keeper couldn't prevent May from registering a deserved lead on the quarter of an hour mark though as May got his first, latching onto Crowley's flick, before cutting inside to power home.

There had been little threat from the hosts, but falling behind sparked them into life, and after Hamburger SV loanee Amaechi went close with a low hit, he levelled from close-range when the Robins failed to fully deal with a low cross.

Chris Hussey's spectacular long-distance free kick forced Dixon to push his strike over the crossbar, while the left back crossed for Kyle Joseph ahead of half time to head over.

May's second goal helped Cheltenham retake the lead on the stroke of half time.

Crowley set the ball to Ellis Chapman who delivered a stunning forward pass that carved open the Bolton backline, and May confidently stroked home.

After the break Bolton piled on early pressure. Doyle saw a shot go just wide via a deflection, while Ricardo Santos' goal was ruled out because he was offside.

Scott Flinders kept out a Doyle flicked attempt from a Declan John cross, but he couldn't stop the hosts from eventually levelling when Kachunga smashed home.

A sensational clearance off the line denied Cheltenham the chance to retake the lead. Crowley's corner was flicked on towards goal by Joseph and somehow it was kept out by Will Aimson.

Flinders denied Doyle again on 75 minutes after good attacking play, and Wanderers substitue Alex Baptiste fired over in stoppage time, but neither side could find the elusive winning goal, and the spoils were shared.
