Reaction: Pollock on Gillingham

7 November 2021

Mattie Pollock registered his first Cheltenham Town goal in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup draw at Gillingham.

The young defender powered home a headed effort inside the first 45 minutes at Priestfield to give the Robins the lead in Kent.

Gillingham hit back after half time, but Pollock was pleased to get his first goal since moving to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on a season-long loan from Watford, while he felt there could have been more success awaiting him and his teammates had more of the game gone their way.

"It was a tough game. They are a tough team, very direct, a hard team to play against," he said.

"It's a little bit disappointing with the afternoon with the sense we could have had more but that's football and we've got to look forward to getting going again in the replay.

"I've loved every minute that I've been here and to get the goal. I said when I came here I wanted to help the lads as much as I can and if I can help contribute at the top of the pitch then who doesn't want to score? It's probably the best feeling in football and clean sheets.

"Buzzing with it and like I say a little disappointed with the afternoon, but the goal makes it feel a bit better."

With the tie still in the balance, the two teams will now meet in a replay on Tuesday 16 November at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Details surrounding tickets, prices and kick-off times will be announced in a short while.
