Preview: Thomas on Gillingham

5 November 2021

Conor Thomas says Cheltenham Town will be prepared for the threat that League One counterparts Gillingham carry when the two clubs go head-to-head in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.

Cheltenham make the trip east to Kent to visit Priestfield for the second of what will be three fixtures this season.

It's a first game in the FA Cup for this campaign - a competition that the Robins have such great memories of from last season when they reached the fourth round and faced Manchester City live in front of the BBC One television cameras.

Thomas featured in that tie against the eventual Premier League champions and will be hoping to start another memorable run with a positive result against the Gills.

"It's a game we all look forward to. It is an opportunity more than anything to gain some momentum," he said.

"We broke a record last year which was nice for the club. The only dampener was the fans couldn't be there.

"We want to do as well as we can. They are very direct - a strong team. We know what will be coming.

"It is a tough fixture always against them and their style of play."

Tickets for the game are available to buy up until midday on Friday. There will be no tickets available to purchase on the day at Priestfield.
