Reaction: Duff on Newport County AFC

1 May 2021

Michael Duff felt his team produced a flat performance in an "emotional week" as they slipped to a 1-0 loss at Newport County AFC in the final away fixture of the season.

After the emotional high of Tuesday's promotion to League One, Duff saw his team concede an early goal in south Wales that would prove to be the difference as Newport strengthened their claims for a play-off place.

Duff felt the better team on the day won, and was still keen to repeat the same message he had highlighted to his players ahead of the game about the opportunity they have to clinch the league title next Saturday when Harrogate Town are the visitors to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

It's now between the Robins and Cambridge United to claim top spot with the U's two points behind after their loss at Harrogate on Friday night.

Duff explained that of the two chances his team had to claim the title one had now gone, but that they had no excuses with a week-long amount of training to go into next Saturday's final fixture of the campaign to secure the top prize.
