Robins appoint Watson as new goalkeeper coach

8 July 2021

Dan Watson has been appointed as the new goalkeeper coach at Cheltenham Town.

He joins the club from Northampton Town where he was a part of the coaching set-up that helped the Cobblers earn promotion to League One during the 2019/20 season.

Based in the West Midlands, Watson can also name Port Vale, Carlisle United and Kidderminster Harriers among his former employers in his coaching career.

In his playing days he was on the books at Derby County, Luton Town and Wolves.

Commenting on his appointment he said: "It's great to be here and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"When you see the vision of the gaffer and where he wants to go and how he operates it was a big magnet for me.

"I've got three great goalkeepers here, a range of experience, so it's a good mix and a good balance of all the goalkeepers."

Watson has started work with the first team goalkeepers this week and will be at the first pre-season friendly on Saturday when the Robins take on Southern League Division One South opponents Cinderford Town.
