Aston Villa youngster heads in on loan

29 January 2021

A second new face has been added to Cheltenham Town's forward line with the addition of striker Indiana Vassilev on a loan deal until the end of the season.

He moves to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium from Premier League side Aston Villa and has spent the first half of this season on loan in League One at Burton Albion.

Aged 19, he celebrates turning 20 next month, and last season appeared six times in the first team for Villa, including Premier League appearances against Liverpool and Manchester United.

Born in the USA, he is of Bulgarian descent, but has represented the USA internationally up to under-20 level.

He started his career as part of the famed IMG Academy in the USA where the likes of USA internationals Eric Lichaj, Jonathan Spector, DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Bradley also broke through before going on to achieve significant success on the international stage for the USA.

Spotted by Villa, he transferred to the Birmingham club in 2018 and after success with the under-23s squad was elevated into the first team set-up at Villa Park.

In September 2020, he signed on loan for Burton for his first loan spell in the EFL and now he will spend the second half of the campaign at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium, looking to play a part in the club's promotion push.

He will wear shirt number 29 and is available for selection for Saturday's fixture against Forest Green.
