Reaction: Smith on Walsall

17 February 2021

Sam Smith ensured he made a positive impression in his first start for Cheltenham Town as his equalising goal at Walsall on Tuesday helped the team on the way to three points.

The January loan addition from Reading scored his first goal for the club with a well-taken finish at the Banks's Stadium after his strike partner on the night, Alfie May, unselfishly laid the ball into his path inside the box.

It was only his second appearance since joining and his first from the start and Smith was pleased that by getting his first goal it's taken any early pressure off his shoulders.

Speaking at the end of the game he was also pleased to bounce back from the frustration of his start to life at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium which saw him test positive for covid-19 to delay his first few days at the club.

He'll be looking to make an impact in Saturday's next fixture which is a home clash with Bradford City.
