Reaction: Williams on Shrewsbury Town

19 December 2021

There was frustration for goal scorer Andy Williams at what could have been for Cheltenham Town at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The experienced striker notched his fifth goal in just nine starts this season to equalise in the first half at Montgomery Waters Meadow, going onto force Shrewsbury 'keeper Marko Marosi into one of many excellent saves and hit the crossbar.

The home side won out on the day though, collecting all three points with a 3-1 win, and Williams was disappointed with how the opening minutes of the second half ultimately ended up dictacting the direction of the game.

"We dominated, especially after the red card, but couldn't get the second goal to see us going in ahead at half time," he said.

"It's so frustrating because we talked about starting right and doing the right things and one little lapse of concentration gets them in and it's a totally different game then.

"I've had another chance where I've hit the bar and probably should have scored. It's frustrating not to hit the target.

"It's a different game at 2-1. The chances are harder to take - you're thinking in your head that you've got to score two, not just one. You don't just want to draw against ten men."
