Preview: Duff on Oxford United

31 December 2021

There will be some bodies back in the squad for Cheltenham Town's New Year's Day game at Oxford United, while boss Michael Duff himself will be returning after a period of isolation because of COVID-19.

The Robins chief was forced to stay at home for the Boxing Day clash with Plymouth Argyle.

And after Wednesday's game at MK Dons was postponed because only 11 fit players were available for the match in Buckinghamshire, there have been a small number who have returned to the squad for Saturday's visit to the Kassam Stadium.

Duff is well aware of the test that lies in wait in Oxfordshire though. Karl Robinson's side are in good form and are looking upwards in their quest for promotion to the Championship.

"They've got in the play-offs the last two years and in the calendar year I think they've got the most points in the league," he said.

"They've hit a rich vein of form so in terms of where we're going it's probably as tough as it gets. They've lost one in 11 or 12, the players know their jobs, they play really good football, they have defined way of playing.

"We managed to beat them at home, so it shows that we can beat them. That was a different stage of the season.

"We'll have to show togetherness and shape and play from our shape like we did against Plymouth and find a bit more quality."
