Haynes on under-18s FA Youth Cup win over Rugby

9 December 2021

Pete Haynes was pleased with the professional showing his under-18s side produced in their FA Youth Cup third round win at Rugby Town on Wednesday night, but felt they still could have offered a better performance.

The scholars made it through into the fourth round with a 4-0 away win at Rugby Town in front of a large crowd at Butlin Road.

Goals from Brennan Denness-Barrett, Joe Hunt and Connor Jakeways (2) secured safe passage through to the next stage where either Huddersfield Town or Blackpool are up next in January 2022.

"Happy with the result, yes, happy with the performance? No," Haynes said.

"We think the players dealt very well with a very difficult environment.

"Our professionalism got us through the game. We're very pleased with the result, pleased with the performance, no, but that's our job to pick the bones out of it and make sure that we're better.

"We need to be in a better and stronger position going through ready for the next round after Christmas."
