Reaction: Vassell on Bristol Rovers

11 August 2021

A debut goal made for a perfect start for new Cheltenham Town signing Kyle Vassell on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old striker touched in from close range for the second and final goal in a 2-0 away Carabao Cup round one win for the Robins over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Having arrived at the club on Monday it was ideal for the former Rotherham United and Blackpool man to get off the mark as the team progressed into the second round of the competition.

"It's always good to score and it's always good to score on your debut. I'm glad that we won and got through to the next round and hopefully I can keep scoring," he said.

"I didn't know what to expect because I've not had a pre-season. I've not done contact training for two months now.

"I spoke to the manager and said I want to get thrown in the deep end and I need to get up to speed quickly. The only way to do it is to go and run around and play minutes.

"He gave me enough minutes and I'm happy with that."
