Having played a part in the Carabao Cup round one win at Bristol Rovers, Lewis Freestone is hoping he will feature in Cheltenham Town's second round trip to Gillingham this evening.
The young defender has impressed at the start of his second season at the club having signed a new two-year contract in the summer.
The Carabao Cup presents a good opportunity for the former Brighton & Hove Albion and Peterborough United man to feature and push for a place in the League One starting XI.
"It's a great opportunity for us lads who have been on the bench in the league games," Freestone said.
"This is where we get to take our chance and put your hand up and give the gaffer decisions to make.
"I'm ready when the opportunity comes. I work hard every day on the training pitch. I used the Bristol Rovers game as an opportunity to show what I can do, and I think the gaffer knows when the time is right."
