Late defeat sees under-18s exit the EFL Youth Alliance Cup

29 September 2020

The Cheltenham Town under-18s side exited the FA Youth Cup with a late defeat to their counterparts from Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday afternoon at the training ground.

Despite coming from behind with a dominant second half performance, the visitors clinched their place in the next round of the competition with a late winner.

Josh Jenkins put FGR in front with a well-taken back-post finish in a commanding opening 45 minutes disrupted only by a number of needlessly given away fouls which gave Cheltenham a sniff with set piece opportunities.

One of those set plays saw defender Will Taylor force the FGR 'keeper into action with an important tip over the bar.

After the break the momentum was with Cheltenham but a lack of clear cut chances ensured FGR held onto their lead.

Eventually though the equaliser would come as Stroud based 16-year-old Felix Miles came off the bench and within seconds headed in from close range to draw parity.

And it would be 2-1 shortly after. This time 16-year-old midfielder Archie Woodall was on hand at close range to touch in.

The flow of the half had been with Cheltenham throughout, but the visitors success in ensuring they stayed in the game saw them profit as the momentum swung their way in the closing stages.

Luke Hallett levelled and then youngster Dylan Morgan, who is currently impressing on loan at Hellenic Premier Divison side Brimscombe & Thrupp, clinched a late win for FGR as he found the net to seal the Nailsworth team's place in the next round of the competition.

Full time: Robins under-18s 2-3 FGR

ROBINS: Parsisson, Hunt, Jakeways, Lawrence, Taylor, Woodall, Spencer, Dashfield, Atwell (Trialist), Skurek, Jenner (Miles)
