Champions Weekend: Conference title 1999

3 May 2020

Three of the players who helped Cheltenham Town gain promotion to the Football League for the first time in the club's history have been looking back on that achievement as we celebrate our 1999 title victory as part of our Champions Weekend.

Keith Knight, Michael Duff and Dave Norton joined Jon Palmer for a special Zoom group chat to look back on an historic milestone in the history of the Robins.

For the first time the club would play in the Football League as Steve Cotterill's men delivered another promotion as Conference winners - 21 years ago.

A dramatic 97th minute winner from now current manager Duff sealed the title with a 3-2 home win over Yeovil Town at a packed Whaddon Road.

Watch the trio discussing their title win in 1999 as part of our Champions Weekend above - from the clashes with rivals Rushden & Diamonds, how they all came to be a part of the squad, the togetherness and spirit which ensured they came out on top against bigger spending rivals and how the club progressed from non-league to Football League in their time with the club.

You can also watch our 2016 National League title Zoom chat with Kyle Storer, Daniel Parslow, Dan Holman and Danny Wright as they take a look back at the club's most recent title success.

On Monday evening watch former player and manager John Murphy with Paul Collicutt and Mark Boyland looking back at the 1985 Southern League title win on what is the 35th anniversary of that achievement.

Jon Palmer's look back at all three titles is also available to watch online too.
