Duff shares his thoughts on the signing of Josh Griffiths

14 August 2020

Michael Duff was delighted to confirm the loan signing of goalkeeper Josh Griffiths from West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.

The England youth international is set to feature as the Robins number one in the absence of experienced stopper Scott Flinders who is still on the way back from a long-term leg injury.

It's Griffiths first loan spell away from The Hawthorns, but the Herefordshire based 'keeper is very highly thought of in the West Brom and England youth set-ups.

Commenting on his signing Duff said: "He has come very highly recommended. We've watched him as we do with all players and done our background research.

"We've spoken with people who have worked with him in the academy and the first team goalkeeper coach at West Brom. I have a good relationship with his agent - he is someone I trust.

"He needs an opportunity but at clubs like this people like Jack Butland and Dillon Phillips have had that chance and we believe he is good enough.

"He's 6'6'' and has trained with the West Brom first team everyday for the last 18 months.

"We believe with the strategy that we've got he can come in and add to what we've got. Owen (Evans) came in and did well last year so he has big shoes to fill.

"We're not sure where Scott is in terms of how far away he is. But if Josh does well it means we do well."
