An Alex Addai double helped Cheltenham Town progress through to the next round of the Gloucestershire Senior Cup at Slimbridge.

Captain for the night Addai struck twice in the second half to help a mixed Robins side made up of first team and youth team players to a 2-1 win over their Southern League Division One South opponents.

Sol Wanjua-Smith's free kick right at the end halved the deficit for the Swans, but it was too little too late for any sort of dramatic stoppage time comeback.

Cheltenham's starting XI included 15-year-old Harvey Skurek in a left wing back role, while fellow 15-year-old Joe Hunt came on as a second half substitute in a matchday squad that included 11 players under the age of 18.

The hosts had the better of the early exchanges with Wanjua-Smith and Ryan Beckinsale testing Rhys Lovett with shots, while Jack Horrell's free kick effort on 19 minutes forced Lovett into action.

Recent signing Jonte Smith powered a shot over the target after being slipped in by second year scholar Aaron Basford just before the interval.

After the break Addai's searing pace made the difference as he followed up his goal on Saturday against Stevenage with the opener.

Tom Chamberlain's perfectly threaded pass was latched onto by the speedy attacker who kept his cool to slot past Alex Freeman.

It was two minutes later with an almost carbon copy of the Robins first. Chamberlain supplied the pass through the middle of the pitch, and Addai was too quick for the Swans back line and Freeman, and he nipped in to help the ball into an empty net.

Smith looked to join his strike partner on the scoresheet but saw his right-footed hit from a fine Dan Bowry pass on 59 minutes go wide, while Lovett kept hold of his clean sheet to deny Will Peck from a Slimbridge corner.

First year scholar Aaron Evans-Harriott almost added to the Robins lead late on when he burst into the box and saw his strike tipped by Freeman onto the post.

Lovett prevented Tyrone Tucker-Dixon from registering a late goal for Slimbridge that they would eventually get when Wanjua-Smith fired in a fine free kick from 25-yards on 90 minutes.

Cheltenham held on though to confirm victory and a place in the next round of the competition.
