Preview: Smith on Stevenage

5 September 2019

New signing Jonte Smith spoke to the media this morning for the first time since becoming a Cheltenham Town player and expressed his delight at joining the Robins.

The Bermuda international has penned a deal until January at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium and actually ruled out the possibility of representing his country in an upcoming game against Panama to ensure he could get the deal over the line.

He could make his debut this Saturday against Stevenage having joined the squad for training this week.

"I've been trying to get this over the line for a while and it's finally happened so I'm over the moon and excited to get started," he said.

Having already spent time training in pre-season with the Robins, as well as this weekend's opposition, Smith is confident he'll be able to hit the ground running in a Cheltenham shirt.

"I actually settled in pretty quickly," he adds. "As soon as I came in the lads were making jokes with me and asking what I was doing here. I should be on Love Island!

"I settled in quickly and it gave me a chance to understand the managers tactics and the way that he wants to play so I'm coming here not completely fresh but with a decent understanding of how he wants to play."
