Vote for your September Autovillage Player of the Month

7 October 2019

Robins fans can now vote for their September Autovillage Player of the Month on social media.

Every month this season supporters will be able to choose who they think has impressed the most from the first team squad from a selected shortlist.

After picking up a well-earned 13 points from a possible 15 in the second month of the 2019/20 campaign, supporters can vote in our Twitter poll or comment their choice of player on Facebook.

September's candidates are:

  • Gavin Reilly
  • Ryan Broom
  • Ben Tozer
  • Jacob Greaves

Cheltenham enjoyed an unbeaten September in League Two after a young side narrowly lost 1-0 at Exeter City in the Leasing.com Trophy, with the starting 11 only changing once in four outings after the trip to Devon.

The Robins continued their excellent home record without a loss since January, with two wins and a draw at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium, starting with a 4-2 triumph against Stevenage.

Striker Gavin Reilly smashed home the opener in that game, the Scottish front man then went on to score in the other two home matches against Bradford City and Crewe Alexandra, showing great instinct inside the penalty area.

Tireless midfielder Ryan Broom also enjoyed an outstanding September, continuing to thrive further up the pitch, he scored against Stevenage before bagging a brace in a 2-0 victory at Salford City.

The Welshman was then heavily involved in a late second goal at Plymouth, as the Robins secured back to back 2-0 wins on the road with the final touch from his shot deflecting in off Will Aimson for an own goal.

Young centre-back Jacob Greaves was another consistent performer as he displayed a cool head at the back and in bringing the ball out of the defence, joining Broom in earning praise from manager and former Premier League defender Michael Duff.

The Hull City loanee also provided a threat in the opposition half, driving into midfield with some attacking runs and meeting the corner against Crewe which led to Reilly's opener in the final match of the month.

Captain Ben Tozer was another defender who had an excellent spell of appearances as an ever-present in the starting line-up.

Earning two Player-of-the-Match awards as chosen by sponsors, the Plymouth-born centre-back caught the eye in all three home matches but also skippered the Robins to first away victories of the campaign at Salford and against his hometown club.

A first goal of the season also came in between those away trips, as he stooped in to head home Chris Hussey's free-kick delivery, which proved to be the match winner in a thrilling 3-2 success over Bradford.

Goalkeeper Scott Flinders and right-wing-back Sean Long also impressed in September, as Alex Addai provided a constant threat off the bench in what was a good month for Cheltenham before they started October with a credible point at Oldham Athletic.

Our close friends at Autovillage are kindly sponsoring the Player of the Month award again in 2019/20 as our partnership continues with the car sales company based in Gotherington.
