Community: Post-16 education scholarship now recruiting

11 October 2019

Combine learning with the opportunity to play 11-a-side football representing Cheltenham Town with the Community Trust's new post-16 education programme.

Scholars will represent the Robins in the EFL CEFA League against other pro clubs such as Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town to name a few in the South West region.

Home games and some training sessions will take place at a county league standard venue, with sessions also taking place on astroturf two to three times a week and will include training and tactical work for upcoming fixtures including video analysis.

In terms of education, students will gain an OCR level 3 sports diploma, with lessons taking place at the club at a 1:12 tutoring ratio. This has a 100% pass rate with 90% achieving higher than target grade and 55% coming out with the highest possible grade.

Completion of the course can lead to a future career in sport, also providing progression through to the University course facilitated at the club through the EFL.

Four current full-time Community Trust coaches came through the course, with a further five currently coaching on a part-time basis.

The course is now recruiting with an open evening taking place at 6:30pm on Thursday 24th October at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
