A strong goalkeeping performance from Scott Flinders played a key part in helping Cheltenham to a point on the road at Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening.

The experienced shot-stopper was in fine form at Blundell Park, making a number of terrific first half saves to prevent the Mariners from finding a way through when Michael Duff's charges were under the cosh towards the half time interval.

His performance helped play a part in boosting Cheltenham's second half chances in North East Lincolnshire of picking up a result, and he believed after the game that three points could have been there for the taking.

"It was a busy first half," he said. "It was backs against the walls at times but we showed in the second half I think only one team was going to win in the end.

"We played our football - our kind of football in the second half. We could have come away with three points but we go again on Saturday.

"It is always nice to make saves and keep clean sheets. We've done good away from home recently but it's probably games like today where it could have fell on the right side of us and pick up three points.

"But it's still another game unbeaten so it's a good point on the road after the first half performance."

Next up on Saturday for Flinders and his teammates is the FA Cup second round clash with Port Vale at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Kick-off is at 3pm against the Valiants and you can save money by buying your tickets in advance of the game at the ticket office or online.
