After scoring the goal that confirmed Cheltenham Town's place in the second round of the FA Cup, Alex Addai felt that the result and the way the Robins secured victory would send a big statement out to other clubs.

Addai popped up with a superb effort a short while into the second half of Tuesday's win at Swindon Town to ensure the club progressed to the next stage where a home tie with Port Vale awaits.

It was Addai's second goal in the tie having netted a dramatic late equaliser in the first leg at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

"On a personal note it means a lot, but for the team going forward I think it is even bigger. It's a big statement," he said.

"We've played Swindon three times this season. Arguably you could say they've dominated us twice. We've changed our style of play today a little bit and it proved fruitful.

"It's a big statement - we've shown the league that we can play in many different ways now."
