The opportunity to get a first look at League Two rivals Port Vale in this Saturday's FA Cup second round tie will be a useful marker to compare the two clubs progress this season in the eyes of defender Will Boyle.

The central defender was back in the starting XI for Tuesday's goalless draw at Grimsby Town.

He'll be hoping to keep his place again for Saturday's visit of Vale as both teams go head-to-head to decide who will progress into the third round and face the opportunity of potentially drawing a big club at that stage of the competition.

"They are in our league so we're playing them again in three or four weeks again," he said.

"I don't know how similar they'll be but obviously we've both had an upturn in form.

"Now we're getting into closing on 20 games so there is a bit of sustained consistency in there. Something has turned around at both clubs. I can't really speak for theirs but I know it's definitely turned around here.

"It will be good to see where we are at and where they are at."
