Clements: It's a very good time to be part of the journey

Chris Clements believes it's a very good time be part of the Cheltenham Town journey after the midfielder penned a new one-year contract to remain at the club for the 2019/20 campaign.

The former Mansfield Town man has committed his future to Michael Duff's side and will line up as part of the squad in League Two at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium next season.

A regular appearance maker since joining at the end of August, the 29-year-old believes he is part of something moving in the right direction.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be part of this club for another year and I'm glad I can try to help keep the club going in the right direction it's heading in," he said.

"The way we finished the season shows what a good team we've become with the guidance of the Gaffer and hopefully we can continue that form next season and show the League how good we are with a high league position next year.

"I still believe I have more to give. I see myself as a player that wants to get the team playing and being a big influence in every game.

"Also I take on responsibility of chipping in with some goals from the middle so this season has been okay for me but I don't accept okay. I want to keep striving to be better and like every player I want to play every game."

In total he has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season having been brought in as a free agent following his departure from Grimsby Town a year ago.

With a full pre-season programme under his belt and his future firmly decided, he is enthused about the opportunity to be part of this Cheltenham group heading into next season.

"I had no proper pre-season last campaign so having that this year you'll see a much more energetic player and hopefully bagging a few goals to help the team win games," he added.

"Players will be looking forward to next season to see how good we can be and how high our achievements can be next year.

"There's no doubt we will be a very energetic team next season who is going to play some exciting football.

"It's a very good time to be a part of the journey the club is taking and I can't wait to get started and play my part in hopefully a very productive and successful season."
