Archie Brennan signs his first professional contract

10 May 2019

Cheltenham Town's first summer signing is well and truly Made of Cheltenham, with one of the club's under-18s scholars having agreed to sign his first professional contract.

Archie Brennan, who has been a part of the Cheltenham youth set-up since the age of nine, has signed his first professional deal and will line up as a member of the Robins squad for the 2019/20 League Two season.

The young midfielder has agreed a deal to feature in Michael Duff's team next season after a successful campaign with the under-18s sides and in gaining loan experience away from the club.

He has spent time on loan at Hellenic Premier Division side Lydney Town, and then had a long-term spell in the Evo-Stik Southern League South Division One with Slimbridge, and has seen his form for those sides rewarded with a full time senior opportunity at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium next term.

"I can't wait for it to start," Brennan said after signing his contract. "There are a lot of people who help you get to this point like schools, coaches, scouts, and then Pete [Haynes] and Antoine [Thompson] mainly in the last few years.

"I'll see the faces now and realise they're now teammates and not just Cheltenham Town first team players. I'm excited that it's happened and I'll come back fit and ready to go."

The 18-year-old has featured as part of the first team squad on a number of occasions during the 2018/19 campaign.

He's been an unused substitute in League Two games against Port Vale, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Forest Green, while was also in the matchday squad for cup fixtures against Ebbsfleet United and Oxford United.

Sadly the end of the season has also seen the end of the scholarship period at the club for a number of Pete Haynes' under-18s squad.

Camden Duncan, Tom Handley, Miles Scott, Ioan Richards, Tyreece Briscoe, Will Dawes, Olly Price and Fin Clift have now ended their two year scholarships and will now be pursuing new opportunities elsewhere.

Everyone at Cheltenham Town wishes those who will not be continuing their journey with the Robins all the best for the future and many will look forward to seeing the exciting journeys and progress they make both in and out of the game.

Archie is very much #MadeOfCheltenham and you can make sure you're part of the club's journey next season too by becoming a season ticket holder before the end of the early bird deadline on 31 May.

Adult prices have been cut, there's a new age category for 16 to 22 year olds, and under-16s receive a free shirt as part of their season ticket. For prices and to buy your season ticket online, click here.
