Racing and football legends set for charity match

22 March 2019

Former England internationals Dennis Wise, Dion Dublin and David Dunn are all set to line up at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium in a charity match in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund on Wednesday 17 April.

For a third year running the Robins will host the charity game as an AP McCoy XI, led by the legendary jockey, will take on a UNIBET Invitation XI featuring a number of star names from the world of football.

The 'Stonegate Homes Floodlit Football Match' gets underway at 7.30pm after racing at nearby Cheltenham racecourse earlier that day.

Some of the star jockeys taking part include Sam Twiston-Davies, 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Nico de Boinville, 2010 Gold Cup winner Paddy Brennan, and AP McCoy, who leads the team and was a 2012 Gold Cup winner on Synchronised, as well as being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2010.

The AP McCoy XI will also include Love Island's Chris Hughes, a big racing supporter, who finished third in the 2017 series of the programme.

Joining many of the ex-England internationals currently set to take part is former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist and one-time Leeds United midfielder Seth Johnson.

Tickets for the match are available to purchase online and are priced at £10. Buy online by clicking here.

An auction raising additional funds for the charity is also now up and running online. To view some of the items and to bid online click here.
