Preview: Varney on Newport County

14 March 2019

Thirteen points clear of the relegation zone, Luke Varney is now determined to help Cheltenham begin winning on the road as the Robins look to push forward in the final two months of the season.

The forward has 11 goals to his name so far since joining the club in September, and will be hoping to add to that tally when the Robins travel across the Severn Bridge to face up to Newport County on Friday night.

Varney spoke to the media this morning ahead of tomorrow evening's game about his eagerness to help the team build momentum in the lead up to next season.

"We want to sort this away record out, I think it's important for us now to go away and win a big away game," he said.

"We are looking to get into that middle pack now. We were delighted with the result against Bury because people have been saying we've only beat the teams around us, so for now it's important for us to get big points against big sides, and really prove ourselves looking forward to next season.

"We have to address the away form. It can be even better. The games against teams that are in and around us are difficult games no matter what anyone says, but to beat one of the big boys and put a marker down is what we're looking for."
