Ladies gain a big three points on the road

25 March 2019

A second half goal was enough for Cheltenham Town Ladies to achieve a superb 1-0 away win over Southampton Women and move to third in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West table on Sunday.

Second place Southampton were always set to provide a tough challenge for Alex Cheal’s side on the road at Blackfield & Langley’s Gang Warily Rec.

However having already beaten their opponents by the same score line back in November, the Robins headed south knowing there was an opportunity to follow up their recent high scoring home win over Poole.

A goal just before the hour mark was enough to seal the double over their hosts for the season, as the Southampton goalkeeper failed to deal with a back-pass to concede in the second half.

Southampton did look to find a way back into the contest but couldn’t break down a resolute Cheltenham side in what is the first of two trips down to Hampshire in a week.

The Ladies head south again next Sunday to take on Southampton Saints Girls & Ladies at the Universal Stadium, home of Sholing.

Elsewhere on Sunday there was no game for the Ladies Development squad, however they too are on their travels next weekend, with a trip to take on Trowbridge Town.
