Ladies: Four goals for Brown in Poole win

11 March 2019

Cheltenham Town Ladies kept the pressure up on the FA Women’s National League South West Division One top three with a six-goal victory against Poole Town Ladies on Sunday thanks to four strikes from Georgia Brown.

There was a late change of venue for the Ladies 14th league outing of the season. With the pitch at the DN Fire Stadium waterlogged, Cheltenham Civil Service served as hosts, and the late change of venue didn’t interfere with Cheltenham’s aim to claim all three points.

From as early as the eighth minute the Ladies were two goals up. Brown (pictured) netted firstly after six minutes, and then Abby Bevan found the net to double the lead.

Samantha Grubb’s goal midway through the half saw Poole halve the deficit, but it was 3-1 only a couple of minutes later when Brown scored her second.

She completed her hat-trick ten minutes into the second half, but back came the visitors again when they scored their second from the penalty spot through Sacha Paynter.

It was 5-2 when Brown finished with her fourth and final goal, and there was still time for Alex Cheal’s troops to add a sixth, as Ella Hitchcox found the net to finish off the scoring.

Next up for the Ladies is a Gloucestershire FA Women’s Trophy semi-final trip to face Almondsbury next Sunday.

The Ladies Development side are meanwhile at home to Laverstock & Ford Ladies in the South West Women’s Football League Eastern Division.
