Community: Addai and Waters drop in at the Whaddon Youth Centre

25 March 2019

Billy Waters and Alex Addai were guests at the Whaddon Youth Centre recently to find out more about Fuel Thursday’s, a youth club hosted at the centre for youngsters living in the local area.

Operated by The Cheltenham Trust, Fuel Thursday’s give youngsters the chance to meet with other young people in a safe and fun environment in the Whaddon area of Cheltenham, to play sport and take part in other activities from arts and crafts to indoor games.

The participants also get to enjoy a nutritious meal prepared on site by the staff and volunteers at the centre, which is located just a short distance away from the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Waters and Addai spent a couple of hours at the centre, meeting the youngsters benefiting from the facilities and finding out more from staff about how they’re helping to engage with young people in the local community.

Addai commented on the visit saying: “It’s really inspirational. Coming from a background where I worked in a school they’re just really engaging and you can tell that this place means a lot to them.”

Waters added: “There were a few fans here as well so it’s great that there’s that link in the community. These kids have got somewhere to go on a Thursday to have a kickabout and they get fed at the end.”

Dan Brookes from The Cheltenham Trust said: “Fuel Thursday’s is about getting to hard to reach communities, getting kids active, and having positive adult role models.

“It’s really good that Cheltenham Town give up their time to do programmes like this. It’s amazing and I’m really grateful.”
