Pitch update: Work well underway

3 June 2019

Pitch renovation works are well underway on the playing surface at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium in the build up to the 2019/20 League Two season.

Within days of the club hosting the first concert of Craig David's summer tour (pictured below), the grass has been removed and work has begun to prepare the pitch for when it will be used for the first time in pre-season when Premier League Leicester City are the visitors on 20 July.

Contractors South Wales Sports Grounds have worked to remove the grass and organic matter from the pitch. It is important to do this as there could be future issues around having a wet playing surface if it isn't taken off.

This process has involved taking 8 to 10ml away to expose the fresh sand underneath and now an additional 80 tonnes of sand are being put back on to level the surface back up again.

Watch above on iFollow to see how the pitch has been transformed in a matter of days during an important part of the renovation process.
